Nació en Guadalajara, México, en 1967. Estudió mercadotecnia en el ITESO (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente), y la Maestría en Estudios Cinematográficos en la Universidad de Guadalajara. Ha sido docente de análisis cinematográfico, guión, producción audiovisual y dirección de documentales en el ITESO y la U de G. Desde hace quince años se dedica a la realización de videos educativos, documentales y programas de televisión. Escribió y dirigió los cortometrajes de ficción Amnesia, Dos escritores, Terminal Bar, Rolando las horas y Teléfonos.
Otro tipo de música es su primer largometraje.

Creo en el cine de la poesía cotidiana. Aquel que tiene como punto de partida la serena contemplación del entorno inmediato; sus pequeñas expresiones, discretos gestos y mínimas historias. Me interesa el cine que se acerca la humano común; aquel que duda, que miente, que es contradictorio, que no necesariamente se revela en sus acciones. Busco personajes desprovistos de todo heroísmo que se muevan con titubeos intentando tomar las decisiones correctas para poder ser felices.
Intenté hacer una película que también hablara de dos rasgos que para mí definen a la sociedad mexicana contemporánea: la crisis de identidad y las dificultades para hacer los cambios necesarios que permitan aspirar a una mejor vida. Estas cuestiones son los temas centrales de Otro tipo de música.

I believe in the cinema of day-to-day poetry, the one which starts with the quiet contemplation of what we have immediately around: The barely perceivable expressions, the unseen gestures and the minimal stories.
I’m interested in films about the average human being, who hesitates, who lies, who falls in contradiction, who doesn’t necessarily show itself through its actions. I look for characters lacking heroism, moving hesitantly, tr ying to do the right thing to find happiness.
I tried to make a movie that also talked about the two things which define contemporary Mexican society:
identit y crisis and the hard way to make the necessary changes to achieve a better life. These are the main topics in Another Kind of Music.
